News Nicaragua Economy: Trump slams Iran, Iran replies accusing U.S to bullying them
Iran's foreign minister accused Washington of "US economic terrorism" during a visit to Managua, Nicaragua on Tuesday (July 22), declaring that countries were turning away from the dollar-based global economy. U.S.-Iranian tensions have escalated since U.S. President Donald Trump decided last year to abandon the nuclear deal under which Iran agreed to curtail its atomic programme in return for relief from economic sanctions crippling its economy. To avoid the collapse of the deal after Washington's withdrawal, the European Union is trying to set up a barter-based trade conduit with Iran to avoid US sanctions. Whilst the payment system is still being finalized, Zarif said it showed movement away from using the American dollar as an international standard.
