Nicaragua: Radio Stereo Romance forcibly silenced after 31 years on air
Published on: Friday 15 May 2026
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemns the forced closure of Radio Stereo Romance, one of the most renowned radio stations in southern Nicaragua, silenced on 8 May 2026. The Nicaraguan authorities cancelled the station’s FM frequencies and physically removed its transmission equipment, a new low in the persecution of the country’s independent press. RSF once again calls on the international community to help restore press freedom in Nicaragua.
